“Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting”

“Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting”

~ Joyce Meyer

Lara writes..

On Saturday evening after watching a lovely movie, North by Northwest (Simon’s pick), Sarah and Lara decided on making hot cross buns for Easter Sunday. While considering many dietary restrictions and individual preferences it was decided that Lara was going to make the gluten free, vegan, sugar free buns (because she would be the only person willing to have these haha) and Sarah would make the delicious gluten and sugar filled, although vegan, hot cross buns.

The recipes were chosen and the oven temperature set. What seemed like a easy process actually turned into many hours of careful waiting for the yeast to do its work and the dough to rise. Hence the quote,

“Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting”

We needed a lot of patience that evening because it was realised later in the process that the hot cross buns would only be ready in 3 hours, after many hours of the dough needing to rest for it to rise. Considering it was already midnight and we had to work the next day, we decided to skip a few steps so we could sleep at a reasonable hour.

Lesson learned

Although we tried to have the best attitude while waiting, we found that quickly disappeared when we grew tired. This can often be the case in many other aspects of our lives, such as our practice. Having the best intentions at the start of something may not always lead to a positive attitude when things get hard.

While we do not recommend trying to bake at midnight to teach yourself the importance of patience, we do believe that we gained some valuable insight into how we need to mindful of our attitude and actions, especially when we make commitments.
